Oxford real ale pub, St Aldates Tavern is offering women a 10% discount on food & drinks throughout the week surrounding International Women’s Day (Thursday 8th March) in recognition of the Oxfordshire 10.2% gender wage-gap!

Passionate about gender equality and fierce about women’s rights, the team at St Aldates will be shaving pounds off of every lunch and evening out for women who quote ‘girl power’ when paying… Doing their bit to take the sting out of that gap.

‘The future is female, and we want to do a little something to celebrate, support and promote gender equality. It’s not just about getting a cheaper bill, I hope it shines a light on the fact that we are still fighting for equality. I hope it sparks conversation and discussion amongst the people of Oxford.’ Assistant Manager, Hettie Cotton remarks about the occasion.

St Aldates will also be hosting ‘lucky dip’ throughout the weekend (9th/10th/11th March) to raise money for Women’s Aid, a charity that provides support, services and vital life-saving resources to women and children who experience domestic violence. With every donation, customers can take a lucky dip – if you pick out a famous woman of history such as Emmeline Pankhurst, Frida Kahlo or Rosa Parks you could win a fantastic prize. Prizes range from a free drink, to dinner for two, bottomless brunch or even a spa day!

‘We know pubs are a place of socialising, food and boozy merriment – but now it’s a place of hopeful progression!’, Hettie adds. ‘I’ve always tried to celebrate International Women’s Day with the awesome women in my life, from just a night out throwing admiring compliments at each other, dressed up as great women in history, to a full-blown city break away. It’s a day to recognise, support and empower each other. So, c’mon girls – lets punch the air and shout ‘girl power!’

‘With Mother’s Day on Sunday, it’s even more of a reason to come down and join us!’. St Aldates Tavern has their regular menu, alongside their tasty Sunday Roasts – Cracked black pepper & mustard crusted roast beef, Slow roasted Chicken Legs, Apple Glazed Leg of Pork, a tasty wild mushroom and brie wellington. Can’t decide? They have a MEGA ROAST for those who brave enough…

So pop down to St Aldates Tavern this week to celebrate, promote and support the fiercest sex!
