I'll be straight with you, I'm not sure I should write this review.

After all, I like Sip; I was one of the first people to start drinking there, and frankly, as it already attracts a smart, sexy crowd who, at this time of year especially, seem to positively wallow in their tans (short skirts, open neck shirts, you get the picture) I wonder why I can't keep this little gem secret.

But I've got a job to do, a public service if you will, and Sip is a very swish bar and sushi restaurant.

Slick, yes, but without any of the pretentiousness that normally floats on the surface of these joints like oil (or rather, cheap hair gel).

It's also surprisingly friendly and laid-back, due in no small part to its owners, Jay and Karen Green, who seem to want to greet everyone. Boasting a rather chic interior, for those of you who like to see and be seen, the sofa-styled seating area in the front of the bar is a must.

And set back from the main bar, is the long, deliciously slim, dining/schmoozing area which, at night, beautifully lit, casts just enough shadows to hide a moustache or, for the men, a pimple or razor rash.

Recently having undergone a small but swift makeover, this is the kind of place to either a) take friends to or b) make friends in.

Busy, but not so busy you have to book your drinks in advance, it's a choice summer haunt, boasting both a great soundtrack (the music is appropriately smooth such as Hotel Coste, Nikki Beach or Hed Kandi) and an intriguing sushi selection.

However, don't go expecting one of those conveyor belt sushi bars where plates of Fugu Puffer Fish trundle by with a hundred other raw delicacies, accompanied by snot-green smears of wasabi and splashes of soy.

No, the menu is simple but affordable and very tasty. Choices include a 'Love Sushi', which appropriately includes a glass of champagne with four types of nigiri, fresh tuna, salmon and prawn and Alaskan halibut, or a 'Juicy Sushi', which includes a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice with your choice of raw fish.

Prices range from around £2 to £12.95. I usually plump for the 'Love Sushi' which makes for a light but pleasantly satisfying meal on a warm day, all the more so when washed down with a decent glass of bubbly. Sushi's uber cool right now, but as food fashions go, there are a lot worse ways to keep up with the Joneses.

And drinks wise, the cocktails are good. Prices range from £4 during its 5-8pm Happy Hour to £6.50 thereafter. And wine-wise, I rather like its Chilean Sauvignon Blanc (£15 a bottle; £3.50 a small glass).

Location is bang on the money too, based in the main thoroughfare of Jericho, Oxford's current postal 'a la mode', which snakes its way from Little Clarendon Street to Kingston Road (a quarter mile stretch of hip and decent eateries, bars, and an always crowded Co-op).

Light (the bar), dark (the dining area) and smooth, it's an ideal summer night venue for anyone who wants to impress, chill out or simply woo.

Damn it, now I've gone and told you...
