Pub: The Old Bookbinders Ale House, 17-18 Victor Street, Jericho, Oxford OX2 6BT

Contact: 01865 553 549 or matty@oldbookbinders.co.uk

Opening hours: Mon - Thurs 5pm - Midnight, Fri & Sat 12pm - Midnight, Sunday 12pm – 11pm

Dog friendly: Yes. Well-behaved children (until 9pm), dogs and students are welcome. (Notice dogs come before students.)

Water bowl: Yes, in the summer they always offer it, but when school's in session they get busy with the students so I have to ask.

Biscuits: No

Garden: No, but benches out front for those that smoke or want to enjoy sun in the summer.

Fireplace: No

Other notes: Free Wireless Internet- the landlords and staff are very friendly and always say hi. They have an old shirt that I can lie down on if the tile floor is too cold.

For the humans: Standard pub grub when the kitchen is in service, and pies from Pie Minister. Don't miss their bowl of chips for £1.95; I have to beg for mine! On Sundays there is a roast dinner (beef, pork and veg options). The Good Beer Guide 2008 recommends it, and Oxford CAMRA crowned it City Pub of the Year 2008. Greene King owns the pub, but Matty and Maureen (the landlords) bring in lots guest ales that my master prefers. The only drawback is my mistress says the wines are a bit ordinary. She wants more variety.

Verdict: four paws out of five
