Comedy club Jericho Comedy is providing stand-up shows to audiences crying out for something to laugh about.

And with live entertainment indoors still banned, the Oxford club is going back to the 1950s with American-style drive-ins, with a show at The Oxford Artisan Distillery (Toad) distillery in Headington, tomorrow, followed, next month, by comedy events at Millet’s Farm, Frilford, near Abingdon.

It is also laying on comedy at national drive-in shows across the UK between now and October, popping up everywhere from Greenwich to Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Cardiff, Bristol, Southampton and Brighton.

Comedians booked by Jericho Comedy include Ivo Graham, Brennan Reece, Lou Sanders, Ahir Shah, Andrew Maxwell, Ian Smith, Laura Lexx, Nigel NG, Lauren Pattison & Rosie Jones. The shows also include fun with bingo and film screenings.

Organiser Harry Househam says: “Jericho Comedy is an award winning comedy club based in Oxford, having won two Chortle Awards for being the best comedy night in its region and we are excited to be able to offer great stand-up across the UK this summer and to get comedians back on the road, quite literally for drive-ins.

“Over the last few years Jericho Comedy has been recommended by the Sunday Times, and featured on BBC Radio 4 Xtra’s ‘The Circuit’ highlighting the most exciting independent comedy clubs. During lockdown in lieu of physical comedy nights, we have been running digital shows as well as an online comedy festival through Next Up with Mark Watson.

“Now that restrictions allow drive ins we’ve set our sights on drive-in comedy. Each car will have a bluetooth device on the dash to allow audio to be heard even with closed windows meaning the shows are rain proof and don’t require people to get out of their cars.”
