THE BBC’s Dragons’ Den show has breathed life and financial support into some of the most innovative brands in the UK.

Reggae Reggae Sauce, Skinny Tan and the Magic Whiteboard are just a few pitches that have gone on win vital funding for their entrepreneurs.

Sunday night’s episode on BBC2 saw Mark Boyt, the founder of the Drone Safe Register, secure £60,000 for a 40 per cent stake from Peter Jones.

Each person, brand or company that enters the Den has a team of professionals behind them, supplying design, branding or other creative services.

For Mark Boyt, the person he turned to for support in the run-up to Dragons’ Den was Alex Baker, of web design and digital marketing agency HEXComputing, based in Osney Mead, West Oxford.

Mr Baker, originally from Colchester, created HEXComputing in 2012 as a trusted go-to brand for website development and design, powered by the company philosophy that HEXComputing must put the customer front and centre of everything it does.

Initially Mr Baker joined the UK freelancing site, People Per Hour, working with clients through the platform and building his reputation. With stunning feedback and a rota of clients, he launched his own website hexcomputing.uk

Now Mr Baker is well settled in the world of web development and has grown his team so that he can offer more than web development and design, providing marketing, branding and design as well as app development and social media management.

Mr Baker himself ensures that his pledge to being customer-focused lies at the core of every project that HEXComputing undertakes, which is reflected in his clients’ reviews.

He said: “I’m delighted that we were able to help Mark with his Dragons’ Den bid.

“We helped him to redevelop his website – we gave him our whole package and I think we made him look good.

“As a result he got a £60,000 investment from Peter Jones, one of the Dragons on the show.

“Our company is growing and we are looking to expand our client base, hopefully with some coming from across Oxfordshire.”

The team behind Drone Safe Register, the UK’s largest network of CAA-approved drone pilots for hire, confirmed it was delighted with the work that Mr Baker and the HEX team completed. Mr Boyt, from DSR, approached Mr Baker at the start of the year, after reading positive reviews.

Working with Mr Boyt directly since then, Mr Baker redesigned the site layout, managed the servers and was able to relaunch the site in advance of the appearance on Dragons’ Den.

HEXComputing CEO Mr Baker added: “We are absolutely delighted for Mark and the team at Drone Safe Register.

“It was such a pleasure working with Mark, but it was also extremely important that we were able to deliver where other developers have failed.

“Making sure that our clients get what they need is critical to us, but it’s also really important that our clients feel that they are being properly listened to and looked after.

“For the team at HEXComputing, we are only ever as good as our last review so it’s important to us that we get it right every time.

“We are so grateful for the wonderful feedback that our clients have written about us and we will remain committed to always putting the client foremost in everything we do.”

HEXComputing’s main base is now in Osney Mead, while it retains a base in Colchester.

Mr Boyt, of Drone Safe Register, said of HEXComputing: “We have a very large website and out of the five developers we had previously used Alex is now the only developer we trust to work on our platforms.

“He understands our needs and actions them within the agreed deadlines.

“We had an issue once at 1am in the morning – which was not his fault – and it was fixed within 30 minutes and there was a follow-up call by him personally the next morning to check all was in order.

“The guy is brilliant, 110 per cent genuine and 110 per cent honest.

“This guy comes extremely highly recommended and certainly the most professional developer I have had the pleasure of working with.”

In six years HEXComputing has grown from a single web designer to a full service digital agency and hosting provider.

The company’s team now includes web designers, graphic designers, marketing and SEO managers as well as a specialised service and team.

The website says: “HEXComputing was built on customer service. We genuinely care what our clients have to say.”
