A Wallingford law firm which has been in business for 218 years has relaunched with its focus firmly on the future.

Mary Buxton, a partner at Hedges Solicitors, said the firm did not want to ignore its history which stretches back to 1789, but it did want to emphasise a modern approach to law.

She added: "We are relaunching the company with a modern new logo. But that is not to say that we are not proud of our history too."

The firm's association with Wallingford began with solicitor Mr John Hedges (1766-1826) who became Town Clerk in 1789.

The last member of the Hedges family to run the firm was Sir John Hedges who retired in 1981.

Last week, the firm, which employs 35 people at offices in Wallingford in Didcot, bade farewell to senior partner David Lewis at a special event attended by about 50 people made up of clients and members of the local business community.

The firm is now made up of senior partner Adrian Hatt and partners Mary Buxton, Elizabeth Moffitt and Nicola Poole.
