A business started at Oxford railway station is on track for major expansion after opening a second outlet in Reading.

Vitaburst, which specialises in fruit juices and smoothies, has been such a success in Oxford that owners Stuart and Kathy Hallworth were approached by First Great Western to branch out.

Now the couple are hoping their concept will spread across the country.

Mrs Hallworth said: "Vitaburst was our own idea, and was identified as a result of our constant frustration at not being able to find quick, healthy snack alternatives when travelling.

"From small beginnings we are now aiming to expand nationally."

In its first year of trading, Vitaburst turned over an impressive £155,000 from serving commuters looking for alternatives to traditional station fare.

Mrs Hallworth added: "We offer such a unique product. They don't want any more straight coffee and pastry places."

The company makes a point of only selling healthy, additive free food and prides itself on offering organic and fresh ingredients.

Mr Hallworth, 35, and his 32-year-old wife came from South Africa four years ago and stayed to study nutrition.

They came up with the idea for Vitaburst when they were using the train regularly.

Mrs Hallworth said: "We'd like to be the leading juice bar chain throughout the railway network."

Scott Paton, station manager at Reading, said: "We are proud to welcome another outlet to Reading Station. Travellers can now access the healthy food option from Stuart and Kathy's personal touch."
