OXFORD University spin-out company OrganOx has raised £1.5m from investors to develop a device for sustaining transplant organs outside the body.
The device was invented by transplant surgeon Prof Peter Friend and biomedical engineer Dr Constantin Coussios. It will be used to improve and prolong the life of livers before transplant operations.
Chief executive Les Russell said: “The major benefit of the OrganOx technology will be to increase the number of suitable livers available for organ transplantation.”
