A stretch of the A34 was closed overnight following a vehicle fire.
The northbound carriageway between junction 13 of the M4 at Chieveley and the A4185 at Chilton underwent emergency resurfacing works following a diesel spillage.
National Highways had put a 20-mile diversion in place via the M4 motorway, Wantage, Rowstock and Abingdon Road.
It led to heavy delays at around 8pm last night stretching as far as East Ilsley and Beedon.
