East Oxford is gearing up to host a brand new food festival.
The Magdalen Road Food Festival will be held on June 1 from 9.30am to early evening.
The festival aims to celebrate Magdalen Road, recently named by the Daily Telegraph as the ‘14th coolest place in the UK’.
Organised by residents and traders, the family-friendly event will coincide with the popular monthly Magdalen Arms Flea Market and aims to showcase retailers and food from around the world, with music and a new photography exhibition rounding off the entertainment.
Craig Simmons, former Lord Mayor and resident who also helped organise the festival, said: "I have lived on this amazing street for more than 25 years.
"Over this time it has changed and evolved but always remained true to itself as a vibrant, mixed, diverse residential and commercial street.
"This Festival aims to celebrate the more than 100 fantastic traders and cafes on Magdalen Road."
Highlights are expected to include Scandi treats from Lofgren's pop-up shop, exotic fruits from Noor, vegetarian dishes from the Magic Cafe, vegan refreshments from Green Routes, Thai cuisine from Elle’s deli, and pizza and brunch from the Rusty Bicycle.
In addition, a photography exhibit named 'the DNA of my favourite street', featuring scenes from Magdalen Road by Bernard Clarke, will launch at Caper bookshop.
The bookshop will also sell cookbooks, including one from local restaurant Taste Tibet.
