The University of Oxford is set to increase security after an incident over the weekend in which student protesters were allegedly attacked.

Pro-Palestine activists and journalists covering an Oxford encampment expressed their concerns after multiple men were said to have targeted protesters.

A group of men allegedly yelling pro-Israel slogans have been accused of shouting antisemitic abuse at Jewish campers who were supporting Palestine on Saturday night in front of the Pitt Rivers Museum in South Parks Road.

Police attended the address but no arrests were made.

A spokesperson from the university said they were "concerned" by the incident on Saturday evening.

"Our key priority throughout this protest has been the safety and welfare of the whole university community, as well as visitors to our buildings and the public," the spokesperson said.

"We are maintaining an increased security presence around the encampment to ensure the safety and welfare of everybody, while also providing regular protection across the rest of the university.

"We are in close contact with Thames Valley Police and are grateful to them for their swift response on Saturday evening.”
