Stop charging us to park

SOME city council leaders must be either hypocrites or fools.

In your report (September 19), they shed crocodile tears about the increased parking in streets around Cutteslowe Park, but they were the people who introduced parking charges at the park, which made drivers park in neighbouring streets.

Car parking should be free at all Oxford parks to encourage outdoor activities, especially for children.

If the council leaders are unhappy about the increased street parking, the remedy is in their hands: remove the charges to park at Cutteslowe. Or are they held back by the £86,000 profit that these charges have made them from this short-sighted policy?
