Privatisation puzzle

I HAVE just received a demand to prove that I live alone and therefore entitled to 25 per cent discount on my council tax bill.

While I have no problem signing to confirm this, I do object that this undertaking has to be made to a private company which asks for my telephone number and email details.

Does this mean that while everyone is feeling the pinch Cherwell District Council is wasting money by paying a private company not only to check up on Cherwell residents, but also gain a vast list of contact details of every household in their area? I think it does.

I agree this is quite wrong. It is an invasion of privacy. The information could quite easily be misused.
