Irresponsible application

I CANNOT believe that Saj Malik – a councillor who is part of a council responsible for the care and well-being of a university city, full of young and vulnerable students who are hopefully going to contribute to our nation’s future – should not only open a late-night eating place in West Oxford (where our police opposed its planning permission) but should also apply to keep his premises open even later into the early hours of the morning and complain when the application is turned down by his fellow councillors (Oxford Mail, April 19).

The area was already a troublespot for police and residents to deal with, due to the late-night turn-out of the clubs there.

Saj Malik’s kebab shop only prolongs the problems that already occur there and to apply for even later opening hours was irresponsible of him – even more so because he is a councillor.

Our police are already overstretched with late-night drinking hours and the trouble that that alone causes but people congregating even later for late-night eating would cause them even more work, ushering people back to their homes.

Also, when these people finally do arrive home, they usually wake up their neighbours.

And so what is the point your trying to make? Close all the clubs and bars early to?

The latter is the taking up valuable time of your police force and ambulance service where they could be attending people who are in real need of such services. Your argument doesn't make sense and your confusing the issue by comparing a late night eating place with crime!
