Musical menu mix-up

In her review of the Italian restaurant, Prezzo, at Oxford Castle, Katherine Macalister opened and closed her piece with Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better and incorrectly attributed it to Doris Day.

As a lifelong fan of the legend, I know Doris never ever recorded it. It was Betty Hutton who rendered this Irving Berlin classic in the film of Annie Get Your Gun, and Ethel Merman who had the hit parade version of the song, which actually is a duet.

Doris starred in Calamity Jane, which has a similar storyline to Annie, with a score by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster.

Howard Keel was the male lead in both films.

These are musicals and if you stretched a point could be termed “spaghetti westerns” – rather appropriate to her review.
