Drainage plan sounds like a waste of money

I SEE that after many years of talking and doing nothing, Horspath Parish Council is about to attempt to drain the village burial ground.

The council says this is the first round of drainage to see if it works before considering other options, and contractors will also dig test holes at the same time as carrying out the drainage.

In my experience, having been involved in ground work and drainage works in the past, I would say you dig test holes and monitor ground water levels for at least 12 months (longer during a drought) and only then would you decide how best to drain the area.

I would say that doing it the parish council’s way, they stand a very good chance of wasting a great deal of money, only to achieve nothing and having to spend even more money doing the job again.

I may be wrong, but I very much doubt it.

But with that drainage surely it would have the deceased spinning in there grave!
