IT appears the county council has not addressed the problem with the bus stop in High Street, Abingdon.

There is a lay-by marked “bus stop” which has, at the approach end, a shelter with the bus stop post beside it.

Most passengers queue there – some wait in the shelter and others just loiter nearby.

However, it has been noticed that many of the buses now go past and stop at the other end of the lay-by, which means that the end of the queue (and loiterers) get on first, much to the annoyance of passengers who have been patiently waiting.

I once overheard a bus driver explain that they have to stop there so that other buses have room to pull in behind.

If that is so, the bus stop post should be moved to that end of the lay-by, with the shelter after it. Passengers will then know where they are supposed to wait.
