I AM writing to say how pleased I am with my son’s primary school, SS Mary and John in East Oxford.

Recently Year Six has spent a week doing SATS exam papers and my son came home each day bubbling with a new-found enthusiasm for maths and English. Indeed, he actually went on to the internet to look at some maths websites.

The teacher made the tests rewarding and fun to the pupils by getting the whole class to clap for each pupil as they received the results of their test papers.

The results were very good, too, with many of the children getting a level five, which is above the national average. This is a good predictor of GCSE results in secondary school.

Therefore I would like to congratulate SS Mary and John for its excellent teaching, which has gone from strength to strength recently under its new headmistress, Liz Burton.
