YOUR article about Dial-a Ride (Wednesday’s Oxford Mail) was somewhat misleading when it comes to the South Oxfordshire District Council area.
Unlike the other four district councils in the county, South Oxfordshire has never financially contributed towards a Dial-a-Ride service for mobility-impaired and frail people.
Indeed, despite the Liberal Democrat group on the council proposing a Dial-a-Ride provision in their alternative budget for the past six years, the ruling Conservative group has refused to support Dial-a-Ride.
In effect, the Conservatives have prevented a Dial-a-Ride provision in South Oxfordshire.
I hope that the county council’s cabinet will support a county-wide provision of Dial-a-Ride at their meeting today and then, at long last, and despite South Oxfordshire’s Conservative councillors, we will have a much-needed service for mobility-impaired and frail people in the district.
DAVID TURNER Liberal Democrat county and district councillor Chalgrove
