Will needed to rebuild railway

IT has been said that the costs of reinstating the Oxford-Witney-Carterton railway (Oxford Mail, January 21) are prohibitive.

So are the costs of not reinstating the line to Witney.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. All that’s missing is the will.

not only the will that is missing, also the land and the money.

During school term time, my average journey time from east Witney to north Oxford is 55 - 75 minutes. Each way. That's, say, 11 hours a week spent sitting on a bus, queueing on the A40 or queueing at the Toll Bridge or queueing on the Botley Road (usually all three!) In the school holidays, the same journey takes approximately 30 minutes each way, so as well as campaiging for the reinstatement of the rail line, councils and residents should look at why there is so much more traffic in school terms, and make changes accordingly. Assuring every child goes to its local school and walks or cycles there would help a great deal - but in the end, we need a rail line, desparately.
