In reply to Calum McInnes (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, December 19), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency knows exactly who owns most of the untaxed and uninsured vehicles and could easily send out vans at night to clamp these law-breakers.
Night-time is best, because that is when most will be parked at the owner’s address.
It would then free up our wonderful police force to do other things.
However, I do like to see the occasional crackdown at the roadside, because it means you can see something being done.
Unless a vehicle is declared off the road, it is now a requirement that it is insured, even if it is on your driveway.
I have seen the DVLA round our way recently, putting warning stickers on untaxed vehicles, some of which have been there three years. It costs all us legal drivers more in tax and insurance so it is a good thing that these people are being caught and dealt with.
