Thank you for keeping us informed about the dreadful cuts that Oxford city and Oxfordshire county council are making to our services.

Although I am not a member of the Green Party, I am helping Mary Jane Sareva, of the Green Party, in her campaign to be elected in the Barton and Sandhills city council by-election on October 21.

Mary Jane was an excellent Green Party city councillor for six years in my ward of St Clements, and lost her seat, unfairly, in the May election. The Green Party is the only party consistently opposing the draconian cuts to our services both locally and nationally. We need Mary Jane – and more Greens – on the council.

The Green Party on the city council was also the only party to vote against the 14-34 per cent increase in salaries for council officers.

I do not see why my council tax should be spent paying council executives these huge salaries, while my services are being cut.

I would like to point out that Oxford University pays its administrators huge salaries at a time that students are being asked to pay huge hikes in tuition fees.

Wake up people of Oxford! Join the Oxfordshire Anti Cuts Alliance in the Rally in Bonn Square at 5.30 pm today, and vote Green to save our services. Penelope Newsome, Oxford
