Culling badgers is of little use

THE badger is an iconic part of our British wildlife.

A cull of the badgers, either by gassing, snaring or shooting would have little impact on TB in cattle, as some badgers would evade the cull.

Culling is certainly not badger-friendly.

In the 1950s many people in this country were affected by TB. This disease was eradicated mainly by vaccination of BCG in children — and it’s still used today.

It has been suggested that we should be immunising all cattle at birth with BCG.

This procedure would be practical and a cost-effective way to help the farmers and would also help conserve the endangered badgers.
