I note with interest the ongoing camera debate.
Evidence that many drivers are flouting the 20mph limit has been dealt something of a blow by Superintendent Helen Chamberlain, of Nottinghamshire Police.
As she has just suffered the ignominy of being caught at 29mph over the speed limit, she has announced that hand held radar guns are inaccurate.
I would think that as a superintendent, she must be trustworthy!
Quite apart from that, it would be interesting to know whether the gun had been correctly calibrated, and was the user properly trained in its use? It is much easier to get a high reading from these things than it is an accurate one. I feel this is a bad case of jumping on the bandwagon.
Following all the claims that there will be mass bloodshed following the switch off, what is the evidence from Swindon?
The experience in that town doesn’t support the claim. And as for the holier than thou villagers of Nuneham Courtenay, I would ask them if they are the only drivers in the country who adhere to speed limits.
Do they think so lowly of their fellow men, that they assume their village will replace Silverstone?
