Learn manners

OXFORD during the summer is full of foreign language students, attending various schools.

I say to the teachers of these students, the first word they should be taught is ‘manners’ – especially when waiting and getting on buses.

They don’t queue like the British do, automatically, and when they get on the bus they don’t give up their seats to senior citizens who might be standing.

They fill the pavements and people must walk into the road to get past.

Also, as there are so many in the city centre, especially Bonn Square and Cornmarket Street, in the evenings, and there are no public conveniences around because they are closed, I would like to ask, where do they go?

Many are young and not able to go into bars, so the only places left are the takeaways. Surely they don’t all queue up in McDonalds, next to people getting their quarter-pounders?

No wonder Oxford has a bad name among tourists who visit, when the powers that be cannot provide people what they need.

And its only like that in the summer, blimmey its improved, it used to be like it all the year round, which is why we stopped coming to Oxford. In winter its always an awfull place anyway, so I think we'll continue going to Cheltenham, more polite, much cleaner, much cheaper, car friendly with lots of parking, and oh yes the people are nice too, much friendlier.
