Labour is to blame for recession

This is Labour’s recession, Mr Whittaker, (Oxford Mail, March 17).

The recession hit this country on Labour’s watch. Labour was singularly ill-prepared to handle it because Labour has ratcheted up public spending and public debt without bringing a commensurate improvement in public services.

Labour has turned our pension funds from princelings into paupers. Labour sold our gold reserves at the bottom of the market.

Labour has failed monumentally to improve the social stock of this country by growing the dependency culture and failing to improve learning and skills sufficiently to meet modern needs.

Labour has taken us to costly wars but failed adequately to fund the military to fight them.

Labour has let this country down for 13 years and it is time for them to go.

Keith R Mitchell, Conservative Party member and Leader of the Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Oxford

At first when I read this letter I thought it was just the ramblings of someone who didn't have a clue what they were on about, foisted their own opinions on other people and lived in their own world with scant regard for other people.

Then when I saw the name at the bottom I realised I was right.

Some of Keiths comments are correct..... what he fails to say is that the Tories also backed 'the costly wars' he talks about..... & as for public spending, we only have to look at Headington roundabout, the shopping precinct roads off carfax, 20mph unpoliceable roads across the City..... to mention only a few..... oh dear - is it any wonder David Cameron is going down in the polls?..... I still prefer him to 'Blood on his hands' Brown, but it getting harder & harder to find a votable party..... Still Vince Cable is doing very nicely at the moment - umm !

It's a shame political parties can't refrain from bad mouthing each other, and instead concentrate on telling people what THEY can do as a party.

I'm not interested in childish slanging matches.

Labour have been doing a world class impression of the Tories, so why is this man complaining? Is it something to do with the fact that it's not about political conviction at all, just a craving for power?
.
The Tories are funny, but not as funny as the people who fall for their yabba
.
They reek of scuzzy sleaze, base manipulation, and itchy underwear, and that’s in opposition. Imagine them in power!
.
At local level they are funded by people like debt collectors. At national level by Lord Ashcroft and his millions made from fruit machines in bingo halls and the like, and minimum wage cleaners. He makes a fortune by exploiting people at the very bottom, and then uses it to help those at the top.
.
Do you imagine, for even a second that a Freedom of Information Act would have been considered by a Conservative government? Of course not!
.
Inequity and privilege is what they are about conserving.
