Having been challenged to use Facebook by younger friends and relatives – presumably so that they can take a pop at the old guy from time to time – it didn’t take me long to realise how potentially risky this medium is.
We’re constantly told that youngsters are more adept at understanding all this new technology, but you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realise that a large majority of them don’t give personal information protection a single thought, and leave themselves wide open to personal security fraud.
Many don’t realise that their bosses – or potential new bosses – do check sites like Facebook and Twitter and will judge you accordingly, looking at your potential for bringing their company into disrepute.
The bad language used by many is also a problem, and you do get the impression that many are influenced by the intoxicating product of their choice – immediately prior to adding their comments.
This ensures they make right prats of themselves, and risk turning themselves into easier targets for thieves, fraudsters and, worst of all, paedophiles.
