What a strange world Labour councillor John Tanner inhabits.

After proposing to close public toilets across the city, he then tries to claim credit for keeping them open (letters, March 11).

In reality, the u-turn came after a campaign mounted by Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Goddard, as the Oxford Mail reported back in November.

Even now there are several toilets still under threat. Labour councillors can spin all they want, but the truth is that they are cutting frontline services, hitting the most vulnerable hardest.

Back in the real world, it is people like Steve Goddard and the Liberal Democrats who are standing up for local people.
