THE letters page (Oxford Mail, February 19) represents an interesting snapshot of your regular correspondents and civic society.

Hugh Jaeger writes good letters on his chosen subject, but also reminds us that greenwash and the democratic deficit are still relevant. Bruce Ross-Smith and Richard Bryant write good letters, and are active in their local communities. Derrick Holt cleverly misrepresents the real issues, but we can agree that “words alone get us nowhere”.

When Jeremy is Prime Minister things will be better for everyone. The issues that apparently divide us can also unite us, and the answer is in our actions.

As trade unionists we can say that electric buses and cars are increasingly important and urge all citizens and residents to support the University and College Union in their pensions dispute. It has many similarities to the BMW dispute not least in that a group of workers are resisting austerity whilst defending their jobs and strengthening community.

Yes, John Tanner and the Labour Party, not that John needs (another) excuse to write, but other political parties, campaign groups even social media are also part of the solution. Working together helps us survive today’s crises and build for the future.
