JACK and Christine Collin (Letters, November 16) have completely missed the point of my original letter.

I have no objection to people cycling or walking which, I agree, is good for both health and enjoyment.

I also agree that a car is potentially a dangerous weapon. However, my point is that if people want to use the public highways they should abide by the rules of the road and drivers should drive carefully and cyclists and pedestrians should be on the paths and lanes designated for their use.

Everybody should familiarise themselves with the Highway Code and, more importantly, show an element of common sense!
