IMELDA Roberts (Letters, November 14) dislikes pedestrians, joggers and cyclists who lawfully use the publicly funded roads. She particularly resents middle-aged men who wear garments containing Lycra. As Lycra is a common constituent of clothes worn by people of all ages I assume her antipathy is to energetic men of a certain age having fun and enjoying their lives.

If Ms Roberts is so discomforted by the sight of vigorous, mature men commuting or pleasurably exercising then it would be better for her mental equilibrium if she were to stay indoors.

Too many healthy pedestrians, joggers and cyclists have been killed by heavy machinery driven on multi-use roads by less healthy people whose judgement was impaired by anger, impatience and intolerance.

Those who have and are permitted to retain a licence to drive a killing machine should be the most sober, responsible and considerate members of any civilised society, not the least.
