I HAVE been an Oxford United supporter for many years.

Michael Appleton should have made his move long before now, his timing was wrong. I know he worked wonders for the last two seasons, getting us into League One, and he should be commended for that.

But at this time of the season, a manager should be putting his team together, especially when they are going to Portugal for their friendlies against tough opposition.

Two very good players (Conor McAleny and Liam Lindsay) have decided not to sign for Oxford United because of the timing of Mr Appleton’s departure. The remaining team members must be mystified by events, and in my humble opinion it is not good for their moral. I do feel for all the loyal fans and hope the new manager can make up for lost time and bring in some new signings.

We are all hopeful of a successful season, but it has not been helped by the loss of a manager at a critical time.
