BOB Price says in his letter (Oxford Mail, June 29) that the cladding on the Evenlode and Windwrush blocks was up to the “highest quality standard”.
I have always believed that British Standards were of the highest quality. It’s now clear that although British people in general are of the highest quality, morally and otherwise, some fall well below the standard benchmark as Grenfell has proven.
While most of us would, I hope, defend our country and values to the end, I would also hope that every one one of us would support each other in times of tribulation. That has not happened here. The shortcomings and failings of the towers and councils are a wake-up call.
We should take action to ensure that this never happens to anybody anywhere in our country again. It’s not a local problem as, sadly, Grenfell, as one example, has shown us.
