I CANNOT believe that planners from Oxford City Council have approved yet another restaurant in Headington.

The latest one is to be called ‘Grill House’, a ‘Turkish themed hot food takeaway’ and will be located where Connells Estate Agents once were.

Headington City Councillor Ruth Wilkinson is quoted as saying: “Many residents in Headington would like somewhere in or around Bury Knowle Park where they could go to get teas, coffees and ice creams.”

I have to ask Mrs Wilkinson, do we really need another restaurant?

No doubt it will be used enough as food and drink is an essential commodity, but I despair at the diminishing lack of independent shops in this area.

London Road has nothing but estate agents, supermarkets and charity shops and of course, restaurants and coffee shops.

Lots of shops have disappeared, even WH Smith has gone which I suspect will become another charity shop or, dare I say it another restaurant.

Even Morrisons, (which only lasted a year and whose trade was badly affected by the council allowing Tesco and Sainsbury’s to move in very close by) is up for grabs.

Oxford City Council planners, please see sense and do not allow any more restaurants.
