SO THERE we have it. Another grandiose headline ‘Will it happen in our lifetime?’ (Oxford Mail, May 2).

Oxford City Council and their band of Labour city councillors are planning to give the Blackbird Leys estate a multi-million-pound makeover.

Actually, if we look at the details, the idea is a very good one in terms of regenerating this part of Oxford especially for local residents.

However, there is still a lot of unfinished business for amenities in different parts of Oxford.

The Green Party, to their credit, have called on the Labour-run city council time and time again to have a re-think about seizing control of the East Oxford Community Centre on the Cowley Road.

I do agree with the Greens that this centre should be “run by the community for the community”.

It is the same with the appalling manner in which Temple Cowley Pools and the leisure centre was closed in 2015.

And with a questionable planning application pending, we can see where the priorities are for our elected councillors.

Surely if the councillors really cared, in the Temple Cowley area for example, there would have been plans for a new leisure centre to be implemented if the Labour councillors were interested in ‘regenerating this area’.

Therefore, when you go to vote on June 8 in the General Election, just bear in mind whose interest both your councillors and parliamentary candidates have when you put a mark on the ballot box.
