ONCE again, the students of Oxford upheld the celebration of May Day with bright colour, gaiety, dancing and song.
The May Day revelry was helped greatly by the absence of rain. Originally, May Day was a celebration for the workers.
Oxford students’ May Day celebrations are welcome, but what has happened to the presence of the workers on May Day?
Where are the workers on zerohours contracts and those on minimum wage, factory workers, hospital cleaning staff, teachers and retail staff and workers protesting to retain hard-won benefits and final salary pensions as the striking BMW workers are currently protesting to protect?
It would be wonderful to see a greater percentage of workers at future May Day celebrations, especially as without the labour of workers, our city of Oxford would not function.
