PEOPLE in the Bicester area may have had leaflets posted through their doors by some political parties claiming that they have ‘saved Bicester Health and Well Being Centre’.

But the centre has not been saved. Yes, the building is staying open, but not to care solely for older people. It is being merged with two day centres for adults with learning disabilities, who will also use the building.

This means only a very few of the elderly members, those with the highest care needs, will be eligible to attend.

There will no longer be space for members with lower care needs, but who currently attend because they are lonely or depressed or to give their carers a well-earned break.

For many people, coming to the centre is a lifeline, a place of friendship and laughter, and often it is the only time they leave their homes. So no, Bicester Health and Well Being Centre has not been saved.
