After having my green standard size wheelie bin removed the council finally replaced it with a smaller one.

On enquiry I was told this was the new standard for the number of people resident. For the last 15 years we have only infrequently filled the standard size one, but on occasion, say when disposing of an old duvet, the extra capacity is invaluable.

What we’re supposed to do now is anyone’s guess. Call the bulk waste removal department of which you get three visits per year before having to pay for the privilege? Take it to the tip yourself (all ends up in the same place anyway)or flytip perhaps? Trying to get people to reduce the amount of waste by making bins smaller seems nonsensical.

We don’t accumulate rubbish on purpose.
Who came up with this idea or sanctioned its implementation I don’t know, but I invite them to reply to this article in a future edition and justify their thinking or lack thereof.

So people of Oxford, don’t be surprised if your bin suddenly shrinks or flytipping becomes more prevalent in your area just be thankful the reduction in service means that your council tax has only gone up by 4.2per cent.
