We can now get a depressing preview of the tortuous chasm for buses and cyclists around the looming Westgate shopping mall.

And we can all see that there is nowhere for buses to turn between Castle Street and the railway station.

I wish county and city councillors could therefore accept that closing Queen Street must remain an aspiration. The Westgate chasm will be less awful if buses use it only one way, as part of a circuit including Queen Street.

In Queen Street now, bus drivers demonstrate that they can, until a miraculous alternative emerges, tactfully co-exist with pedestrians.
