HAVING read the article this evening about residents asking for the speed limit on Botley Road to be reduced to 20 miles an hour, my thinking is on a different plain.

I travel up and down the Botley Road twice a day to and from work, also at various times over the weekend shopping and take my grandchildren to and from various activities.

During these trips the amount of people who just step off pavements into the road without looking is astounding.

Also, when using pedestrian crossings, people just step out expecting everything to stop.

We need to get people using the Green Cross Code again. Stop, look and listen; not blindly cross the road.

Unfortunately, people are not taking responsibility for their actions. They would rather blame others for their recklessness.

Just this evening on my way home, as I turned into a side road off Botley Road, a pedestrian calmly walked straight into the road without looking or stopping – then gave me hand gestures when I alerted him to my presence.
