BEFORE the County Council considers another road proposal (namely the A40- A44 ‘ link road’ described in the Oxford Mail ) could they please first ensure that the recent roadworks in Sunderland Avenue are completed satisfactorily.

Having endured 15 months of disruption and inconvenience, the residents were promised the road would be restored to at least its former state and would be resurfaced. It has not been.

The surface is worse than before the roadworks commenced and, in fact, the new road lay-out, with its unnecessary road lane changes, has resulted in confusion and aggressive driving along Sunderland Avenue.

In terms of any new road proposal, could we at least see some detailed traffic statistics and projections justifying the need for this link-road. Such statistics were not available for the Cutteslowe/ Wolvercote roundabout changes; despite frequent requests.

My belief is that traffic statistics would show the vast majority of traffic movement is eastbound along Sunderland Avenue and would not show high levels of traffic turning towards Pear Tree and onto the A34, which obviates the need for a costly link-road connecting the A40 to the A34.

So perhaps the council could address the outstanding problems on Sunderland Avenue before turning its attention (along with its preferred Contractor – will it be SKANSKA again? ) to considering a costly link-road which will have little benefit.
