Oxford MP’s Brexit timetable vote ‘disappointing’

OXFORD East MP Andrew Smith voted in favour of the government’s timetable on Brexit.

This despite supporting Remain during the EU referendum campaign and representing a constituency which voted by a large margin for Remain.

Contrast Mr Smith’s stance with his Labour colleague Neil Coyle, the member for Bermondsey and Old Southwark who opposed the government.

Mr Coyle has written – ‘I will never back something in parliament that I believe will harm local people.’

Oxford has benefited enormously from Britain’s membership of the EU, so there is no doubt that leaving the EU will be harmful to Oxford East, to its universities, businesses, hospitals and people.

In total 23 Labour MPs, opposed the government, along with MPs from a number of other parties.

I find it very disappointing that my MP did not join them.
