I CANNOT believe that a person from the council’s road safety scheme has assessed the route from Wootton to the Marlborough School in Woodstock and found it safe.
There are no streetlights or pavements on this route, and it took the children over an hour to walk it.
I expect the council officer walked it once on a nice summer day, not first thing in the morning and again in the afternoon five days in the week.
In the last week, we have heard how the young girl was abducted and raped in broad daylight in Summertown when there were lots of people around.
Surely the council should be doing all they can to keep children out of danger when going to and from school, and expecting them to walk almost three miles, twice a day, when it’s getting dark and in all weathers is hardly keeping them safe.
