Swiss efficiency without some Swiss humour?
ALTHOUGH delighted that, on a recent trip to Switzerland, Jane Reeves was impressed by the punctuality, cleanliness and spaciousness of the trains, I am left wondering how long she would care to remain in a country where there was little scope for complaint nor ultimately humour.
Decades ago, a friend of mine casually inquired in a Swiss cafe when the snack he had ordered would be ready, to which the waiter replied, with admirable accuracy “in 4 minutes 50 seconds”.
Is this what it’s all about?
