TRAVELLING to Islip this week, it was strange to see all the traffic lights and bollards removed from the bridge which for many months has improved safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

I realise that the restrictions may have been an inconvenience for motorists at peak times but just having the one lane over the bridge for motorised traffic controlled by traffic lights and the coned-off walkway for pedestrians was much safer.

Villages like Islip will always be used as a rat run, especially whilst the traffic flow on the major roads such as the A40 are continuously subjected to never-ending road works so it seems. However the roads through villages are public highways, but I think the bridge restrictions should have been made permanent and speed limits such as 20mph enforced for the safety of everyone.
