SOME years ago my daughter needed a “starter home” and was delighted to find a single-bed terrace house in Bicester which she bought, she saw similar houses in Banbury, Brackley and other parts of the northern part of the county.

She bought a onebed terraced house, although she could have bought a two-bed one for only about £1,000 more.

She lived there for three or four years and sold to move up to a larger house.

These terraced houses are still being resold at less than £200,000 and, I am told, are the fastest-moving houses that the estate agent handles, when they come on to the market.

It seems as if there would be a large demand for such “starter homes” in The Vale, but we are building none.

It seems that our local authority thinks everyone can afford the houses currently being built with very few under £350,000.

Many councils, both in Oxfordshire and elsewhere in the south, are building such homes, but none in either The Vale or South Oxfordshire.
