I ATTENDED the recent NHS “The Big Health Care Conversation” at The Beacon in Wantage as it appears that the health and care leaders have big plans for Oxfordshire health and wellbeing and want to change how services are delivered.

It was a drop-in session where the people of this area could express what they felt were the problems, how the present services could be improved, and suggest ideas to enable the provision of the service of care experienced at present to be improved.

There was a lot of information on the suggested plans for the future and there were also many very helpful members of the Communications and Engagement Team present, but where were the clinicians?

On the leaflet we were given it says “Plans to Improve your local Health and Care services”, but where again were any of our GPs or health care professionals?

As far as I am aware I have no idea how our GPs feel about any of the proposals and especially about the closure of Wantage hospital and how they see any alternative service provision.

They are our GPs who are there to provide us with care, treatment and support when we are ill all throughout our lives.

When the GPs moved to Mably Way it was planned that a new Wantage hospital would be built on the same site.

What happened to that dream?

Most of us experience good care from our doctors but it would have been encouraging to learn how they feel about the way forward in care in our area.

Could not at least one from each practice have attended?
