BREXIT is a wake up call – let’s use it to save local services like Children’s Centres.
Many commentators are saying that Brexit is a result of Westminster politicians failure to listen to what people feel is important – that it’s a symbol of public dissatisfaction with being ruled by a group of distant elites.
In Oxfordshire we’ve felt the impact of Westminster politicians turning a blind eye to what’s happening on their doorstep and local politicians blindly following party dogma.
In February the County Council voted to close all 44 of Oxfordshire’s children’s centres despite 71 per cent of people consulted rejecting their plan.
But the Referendum has turned the political world upside down – politicians may suddenly be remembering who they represent and realising they need to get back in touch.
This means we have an unique opportunity to fight the short-sighted cuts to services like children’s centres. These centres are vital for the protection and development of both our children and our communities – they should not be closed simply because of the complacency of local and national politicians.
