I COULDN’T agree more with Richard Anderson’s letter saying cash must be spent on road repairs rather than grand schemes (June 6).

I have just returned from holiday in Dorset, and was amazed at the amount of road repair taking place around the Swanage area.

Whole stretches of roads are being resurfaced (tar and chippings – remember those days?) The irony is that the condition of roads being resurfaced is miles better than ours anyway.

But it is not only the roads being maintained. It seemed everywhere we went there were groups of workers on roadsides, river banks, etc.

The whole place was clean and well kept. What a shock we had when we returned home to our local roads. It is an absolute disgrace allowing them to become so bad.

Perhaps Mr Hudspeth and Co should treat themselves to a few days in Swanage (on expenses, of course) and try to understand how this can be done in Dorset, when they can’t do it here.

Incidentally, could Mr Hudspeth advise what he has done with the additional funds made available, from government, specifically for pothole repair? It certainly is not being spent here!
