THE front page on February 26 (Taxi Wars) shows good and bad sides of the Oxford Mail – and society in general.

As social animals who are part of nature, the way we interact and the words we use are important.

Obviously words like democracy and socialism mean different things to different people. “Consultation” and “competition” have also changed their meanings. Consultation is supposed to be a two-way process and sometimes they actually listen to what we say.

Your use of competition particularly in our view highlights many contemporary problems.

Its apparent use is comparable to the way Uber treat other service providers like Royals. The way you use competition may be – more likely not – the community accepted definition but it’s basically ruling class propaganda.

We have to co-operate to survive – especially in a so-called free market.

When we were younger the joke was the definition of politician is liar – now we’re just being polite.

The city’s politicians in theory regulate (small) businesses, etc., but are bending over backwards to accommodate them.

In reality they have little room to move but if they were more honest some of them might keep their jobs.

Most people are ambivalent at best about “mobile and web technology” but it’s actually part of the problem.

Your reporters are doing a good job informing the community but the small print should carry a health warning... reading between the lines usually helps.
